A new member with some questions...
Hello and help! Enclosed are some pictures of my (according to the
serial #) 1961 Simplicity 725, that I acquired last summer and started to
restore but will wait till spring to finish, no heat in shop. I'm
hoping somebody can answer a couple of questions: What is the engine? It
looks to have been changed out as the hood is trimmed to accommodate it and
its painted black? Also look at the steering wheel, its backwards? I know
the '700' had a short steering wheel shaft. Is it possible somebody turned
it around for hood clearance or is this a factory fix? Please post
this as I've been wondering ever since I discovered this web site , but just
recently pick up a digital camera.
Thanks,
Mark
I told Mark that the flat side of the steering wheel goes to the back, and
that I suspected that this was a 9HP Model 23 engine -- and that we needed the
engine numbers to confirm.... Kent
Hi Kent, Great weather today, fired up tractor and let junior drive it
around the yard. Haven't spent any real time working on it yet, but plan
on repaint and new front tires this spring. You may remember the 7.25 had
been replaced with a larger engine, but noticed today that the new engine
originally was painted gold, could it be a Kohler? (I'm still trying to
locate ser. #) I sell motorhomes and remember the old Kohler gensets being
gold. please let me know. Thanks, Mark
I suggested to Mark that the gold paint may have been
from a Montgomery Ward Garden Mark Squire -- I certainly don't think it's a
Kohler.
